Welcome to Iris!

Iris and friend

My Web site was once hosted on my Silicon Graphics IRIS Indigo graphical workstation.

The Indigo was made from 1991 to 1994, making this the "most obsolete" machine in my collection.
As you can see, the Indigo gets its name from the deep blue color of its case.
This particular Indigo has the 33 MHz R3000 CPU and XS-24 graphics. This is about the most basic Indigo you could get that actually has hardware 3-D.

The picture above is Iris showing off her 3-D capabilities with a spinning polyhedron screen saver, while Stitch lends moral support.

Useful Indigo Links

Unfortunately the MIPS/Irix system architecture has been more or less officially abandoned, especially since Rackable bought (what was left of) SGI in 2009.  Still there are a few enthusiasts trying to keep the fire burning.

SGI Home Page The official SGI/Rackable corporate site.
Nekochan Net The de facto premiere SGI enthusiast community.  Home of Nekoware.
Iris Indigo An enthusiast site dedicated to the Indigo.
Silicon Bunny Another SGI enthusiast site.
SGI Advice and Technical Data Ian Mapleson's invaluable SGI tech tips.  I never would have gotten IRIX installed on the Indigo without this site.
Reputable Systems Where I used to buy SGI parts, seems to be winding down.  Try eBay.
